Library

The library of the Madrid Department holds more than 60,000 volumes (monographs and over 450 current periodicals) and a small collection of other media (microfiche, CD-ROM, video). The thematic emphasis is the archaeology of the Iberian Peninsula from prehistory to the end of the Islamic period. A second significant area is the German language literature on the archaeology of the Mediterranean. The reading rooms are accessible to scholars from the department and to foreign colleagues and students of ancient history and art history after registering. Each year, some 2,500 visitors utilize the library. Since 1990, a list of the publications on the archaeology of the Iberian Peninsula acquired by the Madrid library has appeared on CD-ROM.
