The Orient Department oversees the publication of several publications that are produced partially in Berlin and partially in the Damascus and Sanaa branch. The Zeitschrift für Orient-Archäologie appears yearly. Other serial publications in the fields of Mesopotamia - Baghdader Forschungen -, the northern Levant - Damaszener Forschungen - , southern Arabia - Archäogische Berichte aus dem Yemen - and the general work of the Orient Department - Orient-Archäologie - appear irregularly. Epigraphische Forschungen auf der arabischen Halbinsel form an own series and Ausgrabungen in Uruk-Warka, Endberichte are published as a further series.

The German Archaeological Institute (DAI) is a »scientific corporation« of the Federal Institution under the auspices of the Foreign Office. The staff of the Institute carries out research in the area of archaeology and in related fields and maintains relations with international scholars.
Furthermore, it organizes congresses, colloquia and tours, and informs the public through the media about its work.
