Arachne, die zentrale Objektdatenbank des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts und des Archäologischen Instituts der Universität Köln erreichte im Jahr 2011 etwa 140.000 Seitenaufrufe (Visits). 2010 waren es noch ungefähr 82.000. Dies ist eine Steigerung um 73%.more
Umbauarbeiten an der Zentrale Berlin 25.01.12
Bis Anfang 2012 werden am Standort Berlin diverse Bauarbeiten durchgeführt. Das "Bittelhaus" (Verwaltungs- und Bibliotheksgebäude) an der Podbielskiallee wird kernsaniert. Die anderen Liegenschaften werden teilsaniert.
Hans-Georg Hüttel zum Auswärtigen Mitglied der Mongolischen Akademie der Wissenschaften ernannt
Am 23. Januar 2012 wurde Prof. Hans-Georg Hüttel im Rahmen einer Feierstunde und im Beisein zahlreicher mongolischer und deutscher Gäste in der Kommission für Archäologie Außereuropäischer Kulturen des DAI in Bonn zum Auswärtigen Mitglied der Mongolischen Akademie der Wissenschaften ernannt. more
Cairo department reopens library 17.01.12
After eight months of renovation, the DAI is proud to announce the reopening of its Library on 7 February, 2012.
The premises of the Cairo Department of the DAI are currently undergoing a complete replacement of power-, telephone- and internet lines. These improvements will hardly be visible by visitors, but are necessary for the security of the building. While construction works are continuing in the basement, the library, of which several rooms on the ground floor have been refurbished with new boarding and windows, will reopen in February.

The German Archaeological Institute (DAI) is a »scientific corporation« of the Federal Institution under the auspices of the Foreign Office. The staff of the Institute carries out research in the area of archaeology and in related fields and maintains relations with international scholars.
Furthermore, it organizes congresses, colloquia and tours, and informs the public through the media about its work.
