In virtually all departments of the DAI there are historical archives and excavation documents which are of great importance in the history of archaeology and classical studies in general and in the history of the DAI in particular. The archives, files, excavation documents and researchers' estates do not only reflect scientific developments but also contain unique information on the political relations between various states.
Detailed information on the opening times, holdings, services etc. of the archives can be found on the archive pages of the following departments:
Head Office Berlin - Archive
Cairo Department - Archive
Athens Department - Archive
Rome Department - Archive
For more information on the archive material of specific excavations or departments, please contact the department concerned (departments) or alternatively the leader of the given project (overview of the projects).
You can find information on war damage to the holdings of the DAI archives together with a list of deficiencies in the holdings here.
