Inventory and Focus:
The Library currently has about 80.000 volumes, including active subsciptions to 470 periodicals. The focus lies on publications concerning Greek and Cypriot archaeology from the Neolithic to Late Antiquity. In addition, there are publications on the archaeology of the Mediterranean when an interaction with Greece (through colonisation, trade etc.) is evident or on new methods and scientific approach.
Using the Library:
The Library is a non-circulating library with 30 seats. Use is allowed for scholars and students of Archaeology, Classics and related disciplines, when holding a valid library card (for issuing a library card visitors have to provide two passport-sized recent photographs of themselves, students also need a letter of recommendation from their supervisor).
The holdings are organized by subject and are all freely accessible, except for some older publications and periodicals. All books of the Athens department – apart from periodicals that have ceased to be published – are indexed in the central online catalogue ZENON DAI.
Loans are not possible.
Every user can order 50 photocopies each month for a service charge 15 Eurocent per DIN A 4 page. The photocopies can only be made by the library staff. The use of private scanners and digital cameras is only allowed after consulting the library staff.
