Reexamination of the stratigraphy of Tell Harmal (Iraq)

The excavations in Tell Harmal were carried out from 1997 to 1999 by Dr. Peter Miglus on behalf of the Orient Department of the German Archeaological Institute. The work was supported by the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage of Iraq, represented by Laith M. Hussein.

Location

Tell Harmal, the ancient city of Shaduppum, is situated in the southeastern periphery of Baghdad.

Objectives

The research serves the preparation of the final publication of the former excavations in the years 1945-1951. The new excavations focused on unresolved stratigraphical and chronological problems. It yielded a wealth of information concerning the settlement of the site in the early 2nd millennium BC (Isin-Larsa-Period).

Previous Activities

The aim of the project was reached in 1999. At the moment further research in Tell Harmal is not planned.
