The catalogue comprises 188 likenesses, some of them published here for the first time. The portraits are extensively discussed in regard to the development of the art form incorporating many comparable works of art stored in other collections throughout the world. All pieces are depicted with photographs of at least four views. This book is the third volume of the catalogue of which vol. I (portraits of emperors) and vol. III (portraits of women) have been published in 1983 and 1985.
