Lebanon

Lebanon, Baalbek    The urban planning and historical development of the Roman sanctuary of Baalbek. 5000 years of history in the city, a World Heritage Site since 1984.	Lebanon, Baalbek Museum    In November 1998 a permanent exhibition was inaugurated for the event of the 100th anniversary of the visit of the German emperor Wilhelm II to Baalbek. The project is under the auspices of the Orient Department of the German Archaeological Institute.	Lebanon, Baalbek-Douris    Several sarcophagi were discovered, that were part of a large necropolis dating probably to the Roman imperial period or to the beginning of late antiquity (3./4. c. AD).	Lebanon, Tell Burak    The excavations of Tell Burak aim at investigating a Bronze and Iron Age settlement on the coast of Lebanon. Occasional finds from the site suggested that new light could be shed on the culture of the Phoenician homeland.

Marocco

Marokko: Marokkanisches Küsten-Neolithikum   (français)    Im Küstenbereich NO-Marokkos werden in Kooperation mit dem Institut National des Sciences de l'Archéologie et du Patrimoine (Rabat) neu entdeckte Fundplätze des Altneolithikums erforscht, um den Prozeß der Neolithisierung Nordwestafrikas zu ergründen.

Marokko: Ur- und Frühgeschichte des östlichen Rif     (français)    Seit 1995 unternimmt die KAAK in Nordostmarokko Prospektionen und Grabungen (Provinzen Al Hoçeima, Taza und Nador). Die Arbeiten werden in Kooperation mit dem "Institut National des Sciences de l'Archéologie et du Patrimoine", der marokkanischen Altertümerverwaltung, durchgeführt. Die Feldarbeit des Projektes ist weitgehend abgeschlossen. Neue Entwicklungen im Arbeitsgebiet führen nun dazu, an der Mittelmeerküste ein neues Projekt mit dem Titel "Marokkanisches Küsten-Neolithikum" anzuschließen.

al-Mabna - Die spätantike Dammanlage in der Nordoase von Marib    Die 2003 begonnene Bauaufnahme und Grabung wird von der Außenstelle Sana'a der Orient-Abteilung des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts betreut.	Jabal al-'Awd - Eine frühhimyarische Bergsiedlung (1. Jh. v. Chr. - 3. Jh. n. Chr.) im südjemenitischen Hochland.    Die 1998 begonnene und in bisher 6 Feldkampagnen durchgeführte Grabung auf dem Jabal al-'Awd wird von der Außenstelle Sana'a der Orient-Abteilung des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts betreut.	Marib Oase, Wasserwirtschaft    Im Rahmen des Forschungsschwerpunktes "Antike Wasserwirtschaft" der KAVA werden seit 2002 die Reste des Großen Dammes von Marib, der weltweit berühmtesten antiken Talsperre, erstmals durch archäologische Ausgrabungen untersucht und Maßnahmen zu deren Konservierung und touristischen Erschließung durchgeführt. Das Projekt begleitet einen Antrag der jemenitischen Regierung bei der UNESCO auf Aufnahme des Dammes und der antiken Oase von Marib in die Weltkulturerbeliste.
Marib, Bar'an-Tempel     Das Heiligtum wurde in den Jahren1988 bis 1997 fast vollständig von der Außenstelle Sana'a der Orient-Abteilung des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts ausgegraben. Seitdem werden nur noch kleinere Sondagen sowie Konsolidierungsmaßnahmen durchgeführt.	Marib, Friedhof des Awâm-Tempel    Seit 1997 erforscht die Außenstelle Sana'a der Orient-Abteilung des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts die Außenbereiche des Awâm-Tempels. Gegenwärtig liegt der Schwerpunkt auf der Untersuchung des Friedhofsgeländes.	Marib, Hauptstadt des sabäischen Reiches    Im Jahre 2007 wurden die Forschungen in der antiken Stadt Marib erneut aufgenommen. Es handelt sich dabei um ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt der Außenstelle Sana'a der Orient-Abteilung des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts und des Lehrstuhles für Semitische Philologie und Kulturen des Vorderen Orients der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena.	Sabir und Ma'layba     Die prähistorischen Siedlungsplätze von Sabir und Ma'layba sind die bisherigen Forschungsschwerpunkte eines Kooperationsprojektes, das seit 1994 die Außenstelle Sana'a der Orient-Abteilung des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts gemeinsam mit dem Institute of Oriental Studies der Russian Academy of Sciences, Moskau durchführt.
Sirwah    Sirwah bildete im 1. Jahrtausend v. Chr. neben der sabäischen Hauptstadt Marib das wichtigste Zentrum des Reichs von Saba.	Wadi Gufaina    Die 2003 begonnene Grabung wird von der Außenstelle Sana'a der Orient-Abteilung des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts betreut.
