Workshop "Byzantine Small Finds in Archaeological Contexts"
Host: German Archaeological Institute, Istanbul and
Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations, Istanbul
Archaeological problems involved in the typology and chronology of Byzantine small finds like trinkets, weapons, instruments and tools from iron, bronze or bones, toys or glass can only be solved by contextual and stratigraphical evidence. The aim of this workshop is to present the local results of recent archaeological excavations and associated stratigraphical evidence from different excavated sites of the Mediterranean area in order to gain a better understanding of typology, distribution and dating of various small find categories. In addition, issues related to terminology and aspects of influence on the Byzantine artifacts will also be discussed.
The workshop is sponsored by GERDA HENKEL STIFTUNG
