Symposium "Cosmopolities in Antiquity and Modernity – Mechanisms of Multiethnicities"

On 15–16 May 2026, the Eleonora-Schamberger-Foundation, in collaboration with the German Archaeological Institute in Athens (DAI), will host the symposium "Cosmopolities in Antiquity and Modernity – Mechanisms of Multiethnicities" at the Art Space Pythagorion on Samos. The conference focuses on deepening our understanding of multiethnicity and examining the emergence, organisation and lived experiences of intercultural contact zones in the past and present. Particular attention will be paid to the people in these spaces, their lived realities, and the cultural, social and religious dynamics of exchange.
