From Data to Discovery: Making Research Data Usable for AI Applications

Digital research data opens up new possibilities for the computer-assisted analysis and interpretation of information collected on cultural heritage. However, this requires a reliable database that has been processed and prepared for this purpose. The DAI’s Central Scientific Services (ZWD) invite advanced students and doctoral candidates in archaeology, classical studies, and related disciplines to apply for the Summer School From Data to Discovery, taking place in Berlin from August 18 to 20, 2026. The program is aimed at students who have already gained initial experience with archaeological research data and wish to develop their skills further.

Over three intensive days, the event will cover practical methods for preparing archaeological data as a foundation for machine-assisted analysis — ranging from data management and modeling to geodata and text processing, and concluding with an outlook on AI-supported application scenarios. Participants will work with real data and modern open-source tools.

Applications are accepted until June 19, 2026 — we look forward to hearing from you!
