Another important milestone for the DAI Cairo archives

Our Kalabsha records stored at DAI Cairo — 1,100+ photo cards, 2,350 individual photographs, 460 drawings and plans, around 2,300 pages of notes, descriptions, and reports (with more than 400 plans still to be processed in the DAI Berlin holdings) — were archived and digitized over the past four years by Ann-Kathrin Jeske, Nadine Issa, Mostafa Tolba, Wafer Hamza, Yasmine Eman, and Maryam Hermes.

🏛️ Kalabsha was the first project of the DAI Cairo branch after the Second World War, carried out in the early 1960s. As part of the international Nubian Salvage Campaign, the Temple of Kalabsha was dismantled into 13,000 blocks and rebuilt on the island of New Kalabsha, south of the Aswan Dam.
