Call for Applications: Research Data and Now? Research Data Management Basics Online

Researchers generate data every day—image files, Excel spreadsheets, GIS data, and much more. But what happens to this data after it has been collected? How is it stored, reused, and published?
The Research Data and Now? Research Data Management Basics Online Workshop is jointly organized by the Istanbul Department of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI), the Department of Settlement Archaeology at Middle East Technical University (METU), and the British Institute at Ankara (BIAA). The workshop aims to introduce students to the basics of research data management, raise awareness, and deepen existing knowledge.
The workshop will cover key topics such as:
- General principles of research data management
- Research data policies
- Organization and structuring of data
- Documentation and metadata
- Storage and backup strategies
- Legal aspects
The course will be interactive, combining presentations, discussions, and group activities to create a dynamic learning environment.
This workshop is primarily intended for students without knowledge or experience in data management.
By the end of the workshop, participants had established a solid foundation in the field of Research Data Management, enabling them to apply the concepts and practices to their own projects. Furthermore, the workshop provided a basis for further learning and development in this field.
The language of workshop will be in English and will take place online on June 24, 2026.
