Rome Department
The DAI Rome Department dates back to the foundation of the Instituto di Corrispondenza Archeologica in 1829. It is the oldest DAI department with origins as a European research institute. Though the Rome-based institute became a DAI branch in the 19th century, its main research focus to this day is the cultural heritage of Europe, with a special emphasis on the territory of modern Italy as well as neighbouring regions, including North Africa.
