DAMATRIS PALACE. AN IMPERIAL PROPERTY OUTSIDE OF CONSTANTINOPLE - SAMANDIRA/SANCAKTEPE
Mentioned as a summer palace in various sources, today only the vaults, cistern, and arches give an impression of the former Damatris Palace. The palace, used for hunting and resting, was named after the goddess Demeter and built by the Byzantine emperors Tiberius II and Maurikios.
Once a gateway to Anatolia, it now serves as a portal to the past. Follow PD Dr. Ulrich Mania on a journey through the history of this remarkable complex.
