Last weekend, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul learned about the KulturGutRetter project and how the CHRU (Cultural Heritage Response Unit) will provide emergency assistance for cultural assets in disaster situations in the future. Dr Katja Piesker, Scientific Director at the DAI headquarters and head of the project, and Nils Jakubeit, International Affairs Officer from the THW's International Working Group, explained to the Minister the procedures, the functioning of the mobile emergency conservation laboratory and the integration of the CHRU into the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
THW President Sabine Lackner and Christina Beinhoff, the new head of the Culture and Society Department at the Federal Foreign Office, who accompanied the minister, also learned about the project involving the three partners DAI, THW and LEIZA. Employees of the KulturGutRetter project answered further questions and explained how the cooperation between the three organisations can contribute to the international protection of cultural property.
