With great sadness we report that on Thursday, April 28, 2016 Dr. Nicole Alexanian passed away.

Nicole Alexanian was born on January, 6, 1965. She studied Egyptology, Art History and German Language and Literature at Heidelberg University. There she received her PhD with a thesis on „Die provinziellen Mastabagräber und Friedhöfe im Alten Reich" (urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-heidok-205381; http://www.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/archiv/20538) in 2001.

Still at school, Nicole Alexanian started to join excavations in Egypt. As a student, she worked from 1988 at Dahshur and served as project director there since 2005. The site of Dahshur and the archaeology of Old Kingdom funerary culture remained the focus of her scholarly work. Her book on the monumental Mastaba of prince Netjer-Aperef at Dahshur and her articles on archaeological traces of funerary rituals gained international recognition.

Throughout her life and work Nicole Alexanian devoted unlimited effort to caring for others – workmen, students, colleagues. Living in Egypt and working for Egyptian archaeology was the fulfillment of her life.
