Urban Relations

Urban Relations – Network for the Study of Cities in Ancient North Africa” is an interdisciplinary and international network funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), coordinated by Dr. Dennis Mario Beck (Rome) Prof. Dr. Lennart Gilhaus (Berlin).

The network addresses a wide range of issues relating to urbanity in ancient North Africa with the aim of understanding cities as parts of complex networks of relationships. The project examines the phenomenon ‘city’ in its external relations and from the beginnings of urban life to the Islamic expansion from a longue durée approach.
